ok fellow riders, forgive my ignorance, but i want to get a hand gun, nothing special, but just to have one for those emergencies (should they arise). Where do i start? I'm 19, so i know i have to wait a little more, but what else?

Get an XD any caliber, super easy to clean and maintain, reliable, high capacity. Can't beat the price.  But the taurus 24/7 is a nice gun also for a really great price.  Also can't go wrong with the sig, hk. F&N or Glock.  Just don't go out and get a cheap gun you get what you pay for.  A gun is one thing that must work when you need it to.

First of all .... the only thing you have to wait for - is 21yrs of age to
"buy" one.
You can however own one at 19.

Second .... go down to one of the Marksman shooting ranges and
they have rentals. Shoot all of them that you want - find what you
like best.
Everyone like different pistols by person preference.
Springfield XD feels most comfy in my hand .... others care for
the Glock more .... some like Ruger.  To each thier own and everyone
is different.
But make sure you shoot them before you decide to buy one ... you need
to be 110% comfortable with it and love it.

Third ... 40 cal is best for home defense.
I have heard many cops and marshalls tell me that the 45 hollows
tend to jam - not great if your in a situation.
and the diference is - 40 is a kick .... 45 is a push.
and 40 does more damage.

I am very petite so i cant shoot the broad side of a barn yard
with a 40. Kicks like a MULE.
Doesnt do me any good if i cant shoot what i need to.
but can shoot the 45 because its a push not a kick .. however
 - jams would be a problemo.

So being that i carry a 9mm - Hydrashock Hollow points.

Hope that helps. Good luck.

My Concealed Gun

Glock 27 with +1 Grip Extension. 10+1 Cap. GlockMeister 3lb trigger plate, Meprolite Night Sights, fully polished internals. Incredibly Crisp gun to shoot.

One of my other joys, Home Built AR15. A3 Upper, ACE Stock, DPMS Lower, SureFire light, TacPoint sight..mild internal work. Incredibly fast and accurate gun. I've used it in 3-Gun matches.

Last but not least...The best picture. This was taken a while back with an old roommate. Its a mix of stuff from both of us. Mainly done for Shits&Grins

"There are 550 million firearms in worldwide circulation.  That's one firearm for every 12 people on the planet.  The only question is: How do we arm the other 11?"
