Ok, I have been waiting to post this since Thursday night when I got the call. I wanted to wait till he got into Post -op and I got a final word on his condition.
His name is Justin Martwick, he is one of my SGT. / E-5's in my maintenance platoon in my National Guard unit in Phoenix. He is the guy that I bought my green 06' ZX10R from. Some of you may remember it. Well he bought it back from me a few months ago and traded it and his 06 ZX14R in on the 07 LE ZX10R about a week ago. Well going home late Thursday night a big truck pulled out in front of him for a head-on collision. We knew he was in critical condition with neck and spine injuries. Doc said they didn't know if he would make it until after his surgery. Well hes out now and he will pull through but he has been determined a full paraplegic from the neck down. They say that maybe in a short time that could change. He has the strength to blink on yes and no questions right now and that's it. He just married a couple of months ago and has a daughter now. She is having a hard time with work and all. His loss of income and her not working full time now to be at the hospital and no money for some bills now and a sitter.
So if I set up a fund account would some of you guys be willing to pitch in something? I'm also going to try to get a "riders get together" in Phoenix and do a donations ride for him as well.

I know when I was in my coma and out of work for 2 years from my motorcycle accident, it helped me out a lot.
Any help or more ideas are greatly appreciated.

Please pray for him. Thanks. NinjaBall

Man im sorry to hear about this not only as a fellow rider but also as a fellow service member. I'll keep him and the family in my prayers. As far as anything else goes, just keep giving updates and the donations thing sounds like a really good idea. When you decide about the ride def let me know. Ill make time for that.

OMG  +1 on what McLovin said. Let us know and we'll just have one giant TSB ride to help raise money.

Def keep us posted on the ride.

There is medical research being done in other countries that may be able to help your friend recover.

I hope people think about this in November.

Please keep us updated, and will be in my prayers. Tell him to stay positive, if the docs told him his condition can change that is very positive but it does happen.

My sympathies to him and his family.

I know the army will cover soldiers injured while off post, but only if they were wearing all their gear.  I think they can actually be prosecuted for getting injured without a helmet, although I don't think it happens very often.  There was an incident a couple years ago with a NETCOM soldier that got hit headon while passing a car in a narrow roadway, no helmet on, comatose from a head injury.  I think they finally somehow phinagled the army into paying for his healthcare.

Will the NGB do anything to help him?  I hope so...

Anyways, if everyone put $20 into a fund it could turn into a few thousand pretty fast, and help him out a lot.

Not completely true, The Army found a way to NOT pay my medical and it is now up to $798,000. They found a loop hole, (assholes). I was in full gear and on active orders. BUT for the guard, your only covered if your injured on the the way to and from work and can prove it. Hoping that the truck that pulled out in front of him was insured and they will have to pay for it was there fault, it's the personal bills that they have no way to pay now that he has no income coming in. He was on active orders for the guard as well, so he should have one more paycheck coming in.

$20 per person would be perfect. I'm working on getting a seperate account set up for this for the family. A little difficult when their in Phoenix. And she doesn't answer texts and such on q like most people.

Ok, here's the deal. I have set up a "Benefit Race" at S.i.R. (Waiting on paperwork to be finalized) During the Street Legal Night event on 10 OCT 2008 we are going to run a bracket race event to raise funds for Justin's family. Tech card will be still only $10.00 and ALL NHRA and Tech rules still apply. Who ever wants to race in the bracket event will/ can donate $25. $20 from each racer will go to the family and the remaining $5 will go in the winners pot. So the more racers there are the bigger the pot. I know that $35 total may seem to be a lot but it is for a good cause. Plus you get a good nights worth of fun and racing. So please be kind and come race for Justin. Thanks to all in advance.
P.S. Should be open to all bikes and cars

It's a STREET LEGALS event, Means your ride has to be street legal and this means no race tires too. :)

As long as you have a SNELL approved lid made 2000 or newer, protective jacket, some type of leather shoe or boot and leather gloves your good UNLESS you run 120MPH or faster THEN you have to have FULL leathers (they do allow full textile as long as it is fully armored) AND IF you run a 10.99 second 1/4 or faster you have to have "kill switch tether". In case you go down it will shut the motor off. Otherwise all NHRA and Tech rules apply for cars.
