And also, what happens when new guys show up, don't know that it's a dedicated alcohol free bike night, and order a drink from the main bar?
Many times the south bar was closed...it didn't stop anyone from ordering.

I have been a member of TSB for a while now, and I feel a certain amount of respect and dedication to what this site represents. My fear regarding the original skuttlebutt was this: I did not want to see a newspaper headline talking about how TucsonSportBikes.org put together a bike night and someone left with alcohol in their system and something bad happened.
It has been made abundantly clear that Chuy's Rocket Night is not a TucsonSportBike.org event, yet we are still being invited to come, and several people are willing to make accomodations. I don't look a gift horse in the mouth.
If TSB can find a good spot for a winter bike night, I'll probably go to both. I'm not going to let a few bad apples spoil what every has already agreed, is the perfect location for bike nights.

We have installed the Invisible Fence system used in many back yards and zoo's. If it will keep the Elephants from humping it will keep you from drinking.
I guarantee it!

Strangely enough I'm not so amused by the whole thing.
I guess being being in the midst of the whole situation as it happened will do that to you.
There is nothing Chuy's will/can do to prevent riders from drinking and there's nothing anyone can do to stop anyone from drinking if they are of legal age. Plain and simple.
And not just Chuy's, any establishment that serves alcohol.

Finally, someone get's it! this thread needed a little humor on a Friday. things were getting hot in here.
Ira was right, nobody want's to be associated as causing a rider to go down, for ANY reason.
If you look closely at my post about Alcohol Free Bike night in the South Room you'll come to realize one thing. that's the way it is now there ...
1. The bar is always closed in that room unless you rent it.
2. They have AC and Heat.
3. TV's are always there.
4. There is no Invisible Fence thingy-majig.
Drinking and Driving is serious business, having almost lost two family members to it strikes close to home for me.
The company I work for often has "Happy Hours" at local bars and such after tough projects get completed or goals met. It's not exactly a company sponsored event, but how do you escape the liability? You don't. You see, the burden of responsibility often is shifted from those who drink "irresponsibly" to those attending. It now become OUR responsibility to care for those who have enjoyed too much of the spirits.
It's hard to yank the keys of a fellow rider especially when you can't offer a ride home yourself because you are on a bike too. Taxi's are available 24/7. As a 'promoter' (so-to-speak) of bike nights at TucsonSportriders.com I try to police the night as best I can. I'm not alone either, there are several members who don't drink. But this goes much beyong drinking, we make sure nobody is doing wheelies or stunt'n int he lot, we pick up trash left behind, we put chairs back in their place. These are all obligations you are tasked with as an organizer of such events.
Making sure our participants are safe is a way to promote the community.
With that said ... feel free to stop by and enjoy the heated south room this winter. Seriously.
Ps. I'm not really George Zimmer, I don't dress as nice.

He doesn't get it because he wasn't around a few months ago.
I know that the South bar is closed...it was when we were there, hence I asked how would someone be stopped from getting a drink at the main bar...like it was done while we were there. Situations that were discussed at length with Chuy management.
But I realize you might not know about that, seeing as how you didn't attend the bike nights then (maybe 3 or 4 times?).
And as for the wise man cartoon with dinosaurs and all. Impressive. And as Ira pointed out, Socket posted that, not a wise man.

"But I realize you might not know about that, seeing as how you didn't attend the bike nights then (maybe 3 or 4 times?)."
Correct, I lay no claim to being a historian on the TSB lifespan. I was introduced to the TSB crowd at Chuy's only a few weeks before the drama bomb dropped. I had a great time with the new friends I met, many shared the same interests I do going beyond just sportsbikes. Being a Tucson native it was nice to meet some other members who have deep Tucson roots. Being a non-drinker I was also caught up in the politcs when the split happened and left to figure out what the heck had happened. It's not that I picked a side, the side picked me. I have family and work obligations and attending every bike night by every group is not something I can do. For those of us in this position we make the best of the situation and value the time we can spend with riders of any group.
"And as for the wise man cartoon with dinosaurs and all. Impressive. And as Ira pointed out, Socket posted that, not a wise man."
You see the irony now in my statement? But I'm sure Socket wasn't the first to post it on the internet.
To recap .. if you are a responsible rider and can act ackordingly, come stop by Chuy's on Tuesday nights. I promise Chuy's wont force beer down your throat.
That I'll garauntee!

Dean is offering an alternative. TSB will look for a different venue that does not serve alcohol. You can make your decisions from there. I will continue to think of and discuss alcohol free venues, but this will be my last contribution to this direction of the thread, after all...

aw hell here we go again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I give up!!!!!! All of this has been said time and time again and it still doesn't matter.
Hey they don't serve alcohol at the $1 movies on Tuesday nights maybe we should all go there........
Or maybe we could call TUTOR TIME and see if they will stay open and serve milk and cookies or juice and graham crackers so nobody is tempted by the urge to drink and ride.Last edited on Sat Oct 11th, 2008 03:11 am by Goose

By no means do I advocate drinking and riding EVER!!!!
But the question comes to mind every time I hear that this is a TSB Sponsored event.....how does TSB sponsor an event at any Tucson venue? Now in my college educated mind and looking up the legal points of what it takes to sponsor an event, I am not so sure that TSB is sponsoring anything, I would think that the place we are going be it Chuy's or Sonic or even Taco Bell is sponsoring us, they pay for there business that lets us go there once a week, therfor are we sponsoring or being sponsored. Now if you look into the definition you will find the following under SPONSOR:
One who assumes responsibility for another person or a group during a period of instruction, apprenticeship, or probation.
But who is taking responsibility for the actions of TSB members? I guess that would constitute a LEADER in the group or LEADERS who are directly responsible, and in TSB are those the "Founding Members" I am just trying to clarify all of this, I was given alot of crap at one point for refering to some as the "cool crowd" but this just kinda proves my point, is this a forum on the internet where people decide as a whole what they all want to do, are there Internet Forum guidelines that I have never seen? I am aware of the rules that this site has I am sorta just trying to establish weather this Forum has a pecking order, and how is it this Forum is sponsoring an event at anyplace we go, almost like a roaming sponsorship. Just a thought that is all, it would be interesting to se an advertisement for this: "Come join us at Sonic sponsored by Tuscon Sport Bikes" kinda takes away from the establishment.
.02 cents I will never get back

The founding members started a bike night for TSB at Sonic. Weather turned, they moved to Chuy's. We all know what happened. Now it is getting cold and it will need to move indoors. The people who originally started bike night, and who want to see it continue as they intended, are searching for a venue that does not serve alcohol. When the weather is nice it is easy. The issue now is finding a location that suits our needs in regards to facility size, parking, what they do and do not serve, and is willing to put up with a large group of motorcyclists patronizing their establishment once a week. If you can think of any place that meets that criteria, (I've been trying to keep my ideas between Kolb/Oracle and River/22nd for overall convenience) post them up.
Regarding the pecking order...this is not an MC. Everyone can go and do as they please. The people who maintain the site have their ideas and they will run with them. I'm sure most of us will be right behind them.
EDIT: Tutor Time sounds good, I like milk and cookies.

Wow! 6 pages within a couple of days? This seems to be a HOT topic. huh?
Well, I don't have the attention span to read every post in this thread. So, here is my suggestion....
Chik-Fil-A
El Con Mall, near other food joints, just down the street from current location (Sonic), New building, plenty of seating, windows to observe bikes parked outside, lots of parking, heated/cooled, has restrooms, and NO ALCOHOL. Nuff said.
Anyone got anything better?
