my wife said that if I get a couple of credit cards paid off I could get a new motorcycle. I am torn between a gsx1000 and a cbr1000. Any suggestions?

It's not the prettiest bike, but the redesigned engine is SICK!

I asked the same question a couple on months before. And sincerly, beside brand loyalty, there are all goods: GSXR=CBR=ZXR=R. Pick the one you like the most with the design you find cool.

Personnaly, I pick up a ZX10R.

any of the new 600's will run circles around the rf that you are learning on.

the 1000's have so much power and technology that will never be fully exploited on the street.

i am a 600 guy myself and would recommend any of the new ones, but the gsxr 750 is also a very good option.

So, in summary:

Pick the one you like - feels the best and is the look you like. Try to get demo rides (this will be tough) on as many as you can. If you can't get a demo ride, sit on as many as you can and compare.

Seriously decide if you need or WANT a 1000, a 600 will do everything you need on the street. Yes, I know - I have a 1000 and wouldn't swap it for anything less.

Take your time.

Good luck!

The point with 1000 vs 600 is not too much about the power but all peripherical equipments. With the litter engine come a better suspension, wheels, frame, ... for not that more money.

If you decide to get a new bike, please, please, please, pretty please, don't get robbed at the dealer.

Prepaid maintenance plans, tire warranties, unemployment insurance, "gap" insurance etc. etc. are by and large scams. Some dealers charge freight and setup when that is already included in MSRP. Call around; the largest local dealer will not quote prices over the 'phone, but dealers in Phoenix or Sierra Vista or Lake Havasu will. Get the "out-the-door" price and avoid arguing over doc fees and the like.

I'm writing this because I just learned of an acquaintance who paid $9k for a new Suzuki DR650, whose MSRP is $5299.

i always make sure i have "gap" insurance on anything financed.  if my vehicle gets totaled and the insurance company only pays off 75% of what i still owe cause that's all they say the vehicle is worth, i don't want to be stuck paying the other 25% for a vehicle i no longer have.

Some examples?

gsxr 1000 vs 600

wheels - same construction albeit the rear on the 1000 might be a little wider to accept a wider tire

suspension - same manufacture albeit linkage and setup for sprung weight varies

brakes - both radial brakes, 1000 might have larger dia. rotors to compensate for extra weigth/speed of bike

frame - both aluminum frames constructed to avoid/accept flex for each bike

electronics - who really needs "traction control" on the street?!?!  also, both bikes have the ability to adjust "power" setting via handle bar switch

same capacity fuel tank, plastic constructed the same, etc..........

it's not like we are comparing a ducati 1098s to a 1098r, cause that would be a different story altogether.

DIRK sleeps with a night light.  It's not because DIRK is afraid of the dark. It's because the dark is afraid of DIRK.

:giggle

Oh, and one time, DIRK and Lance Armstrong had a "who has the most testicles" contest.

DIRK won by 5.

I didn't argue what Dirk was saying I really want him to give me some examples since I though there was some difference between 600 and 1k equipment.
